Belvidere, IL – Someone abandoned 40 dogs at a dog park in Boone County days ago. Mick Johnston made the shocking discovery during an early morning visit to the Hammertime Dog Park on July 15.
The abandoned pups were taken in by Boone County Animal Services, which posted the need for help to its social media account:
Thank you to everyone who has reached out in regard to the 40+ abandoned dogs at Hammertime Dog Park. Many folks are calling & we appreciate the concern. We are concentrating on all the dogs so forgive us if we are unable to return all the calls. We can certainly use your donations. Any monetary donations will be applied to our veterinary fund.
On Tuesday, the agency let the public know that the pups had been transferred to rescue groups:
Thank you to our rescue village!!!! ALL OF THE HAMMERTIME PARK ABANDONED LITTLES HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED TO RESCUES. With the community donations, we were able to send Diamond Lamb and Rice food to all the rescues for all the Littles, thank you!!!! Thank you to Wagging Hearts, NorthCentral Maltese Rescue, Cause For Paws Rescue located in Byron, Illinois Wags to Wishes, River Valley Rescue & Bonefide Rescue.
There is no information about whoever abandoned the dogs.
