Newly Adopted Shelter Dog Saves Owner

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A dog adopted from a New Mexico animal shelter on March 9 quickly returned the favor to his guardian. As reported by WFLA News, Andrew Budek-Schmuisser adopted Peanut, a great dane mix, at the suggestion of a friend.

Schmuisser has been ill and suffering with balance problems – just a day after bringing Peanut home, Schmuisser fell and hit his head. Peanut sprang into action, apparently knowing exactly how to help his new owner.

Schmuisser tells the news agency that he was unable to move, and his windpipe was pinched by the angle of his neck. As if trained to be a service dog, Peanut took action. Schmuisser explains:

“I felt Peanut come up behind me. He cleared my airway by straightening out my head and then got behind me and gradually pushed me into a sitting position.”

Suffice it to say, this very good boy has found his forever home.
