they say that policy requires the handler to leave the dog in the car if the situation is not of a criminal nature which is bullshit. they are supposed to leave the ac on when the dog is in the car. the car is supoosed to be equipped with a safety device that if the car stalls out the windows will automatically lower to prevent the dog from stroking in the heat. et these systems seem to continue to fail. we can put men in space, create artificial intelligence and have cars that drive themselves but they can’t seem to get this simple system to work.

NO EXCUSE, NO EXCUSE is ALLOWED for this!! Just on the force 2 yrs. and he is left in the car the entire time?? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! K9s die in hot cars all the time. The excuse is usually that the A.C. failed. But that is not the case. Imagine the suffering of the ones who haven’t died yet – and that is not all. The handIers are TAUGHT and REQUIRED to hang, kick, punch, “helicopter” and sIam on the ground (or against a waII), electroshock, etc. the dogs in ongoing “training.” If a handIer doesn’t Iike it and is vocal about it, he’s off the K9 team.

He should be held accountable for the killing of his partner it is a criminal offense for killing especially one’s own partner what was he doing that was so important that his partner wasn’t taken out of the car and was left in their to die there should be an extension investigation on what happened he certainly doesn’t need to be an officer any longer

totally agree with all comments here; this moron caused the death of a fellow serving officer and his partner, it is irrelevant that it was a Police dog! Horus was a heroic and highly trained serving officer, the same as a human officer, and the idiot garbage that caused his death needs to be treated just the same as if he had caused a human partners death. complete loss of all accrued pensions, loss of job and any attached clearances such as firearms, plus whatever prison time would be the due if he had caused a human partner officers death by his incompetance. This officer deserves to be fired. He killed a fellow “officer” and should not be allowed back in service. The dog deserves justice.

Ziegler deserves to die in locked hot vehicle. His badge should be taken. There’s no place on this planet for a careless piece of garbage like that. Law enforcement wonders why often times they aren’t more appreciated and respected. This is an example of why. That dog gave his all to what he did and deserved better. The same can’t be said of his handler.
