Christiansburg, VA – On August 4, the staff at the Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center was filled with joy as they watched a dog walk out of the facility with his new owner, marking the end of his 638-day stay in their care.
The dog, a hound named Ice, was one of the shelter’s longest residents. The shelter was excited to share the great news with Facebook followers the following Monday.
Last year, the shelter had expressed dismay that Ice had no adoption interest. They described Ice as a goofy boy who enjoys lounging and playing, but he was best suited to a home with no other dogs.
Fast forward to August 4 and the person meant to be Ice’s owner committed to bringing him home.
The shelter’s Facebook followers were excited to hear that Ice found a home, leaving dozens of comments expressing happiness for the dog who is embarking on his new life.
Congratulations Ice!!

There are many colors, sizes, and styles to choose from. Thank you!
Thank goodness the dog was at either a no kill shelter or with a rescue. He certainly would have been put to sleep at a regular shelter. Some are killed without hours of arriving even know a shelter may claim they keep them for 3 -5 days. Adopt don’t shop. And pet stores should be made banned nationwide as some cities have recently done. The only place to adopt should be at your local shelter. No more breeders, puppy/kitten mills and backyard breeders looking to make a buck.
May that be Ice’s perfect forever home, except for Heaven later on, that is.
