Just A Baby – Adorable German Shepherd Puppy Returned To Shelter

Update 6/28/24: Cruz has been rescued!

San Bernardino, CA – At just four months of age, an adorable German shepherd puppy finds himself homeless and sitting in a lonesome kennel run at the San Bernardino City Animal Control. The puppy, Cruz, was apparently adopted and then returned to the shelter facility.

It is hard to imagine why someone would decide to take a young puppy like Cruz BACK to an animal control facility. Did they decide that a puppy was too much responsibility? Did they not realize that puppies require time, patience, and effort?

Cruz needs help to find a committed, loving new owner who will give him the care that he needs to thrive. Please share this puppy’s adoption information and help him get the attention needed to secure a new home.

  1. I do wish that people would teach themselves the difference between a shelter and a pound!! THIS IS A POUND where if the dog is not adopted, it will be put to death!! It will NOT get neutered, it will get no microchip, and it will not go to the Vet!! There is nothing done to help or hinder these puppies and dogs!! Is this good for the puppy, NO, is it good for a dog, NO!! THAT is the reason I would love to have ALL of the STATES change the pound to something like this:: they pick them up. they bring them to the pound to check them for microchip and registration, they place them in a place of holding!! They then call the places of shelters to see if they can take them!! NO WHERE do you see ‘put the puppy or dog to sleep or kill the animal’!! The STATES should do away with the killing part of the plans, turn around the pound part to holding center, and then place them in shelters WHERE they get VET care, neutered or spayed, microchip and register, and a warm place to sleep, a place to play, get water and food, and are adopted!! This sounds like I am nuts, but statistics show that if this would happen, that the population of dogs and cats would start to go down!! AND the dogs would not lose their life or owners! There would be no dogs out running loose!! THIS IS MY GOAL!! To see that dogs, that have a BRAIN and they have a SOUL is taken care of well!!

  2. Maybe the German Shepherd kept getting returned is because he is actually a BELGIAN MALINOIS!
(Commonly used as a police K9 officer)
They have an extreme amount of energy and need much more stimulation, which is why they like having an exciting job chasing bad guys.)

  3. Shelters need to vet the people who adopt animals a LOT better. There are too many instances where the people returned a dog or cat for a stupid reason or harmed or even killed the animal.

  4. What an adorable baby. Why did the people return him? Why did they adopt him in the first place? Some people should just not have a pet! Pets are a lifetime commitment and are part of the family.

    • very true statement. shepherds are highly intelligent, very active and will defend who they love to the death. they deserve nothing less. i can’t imagine what this dog could have done at such a young age but whoever gets one will find out quickly it is a large commitment. these dogs should not be adopted out to anyone who can’t spend the time stimulating and socializing them because they will have you running in circles. it’s not because they are mean or destructive like people think. they need to burn off all that energy if not they get bored and find other things to stimulate their minds like tearing your home apart. i hope this dog gets a home where he can flourish and be the best he can be.

  5. the dog is gorgeous. i don’t agree with what they did. you know when you adopt a puppy especially a shepherd that they need lots of care. i will say at least they had the heart to return him to a safe place and not just set him loose on the street. hope he finds his forever home quick.
