TSA Handler Put On Leave Following ‘Unacceptable’ Treatment Of Explosives Dog At Airport

Detroit, MI – A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) handler was put on leave after officials with the agency viewed video footage showing him aggressively yanking an explosives dog at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. The video shows the handler walking the dog in the airport and repeatedly yanking the dog’s leash at every turn.

People concerned about the dog reached out to the airport and the airport staff alerted TSA:

TSA has released an official statement about the concerning incident:

“Video showing a TSA explosive detection canine handler aggressively pulling a dog working in a Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) terminal was shared with local leadership this morning.

The behavior displayed by this handler is unacceptable and not within the high standards we hold our officers to.

TSA officials at DTW have removed the employee from handling duties pending completion of an investigation, and directed that the canine be taken immediately to a veterinarian for a wellness exam.”
